Janmabhoomi Vrindavan Bhatraund Bihari Ji Chadhava
The Ground Where Krishna Chose Devotion Over Ritual Bhatraund isn't a story about food — it's the place where Krishna himself defined what he actually accepts: not the correctness of a ritual, not the learning behind it, but the sincerity of the person offering it. For a festival built entirely around welcoming Krishna the way he wants to be welcomed, few places carry that lesson as directly as this one. Vrindavan holds hundreds of temples, but only one stands on this exact ground — where a hungry Krishna turned down a formal yajna to accept a devotee's simple meal instead. Shri Bhatraund Bihari Ji Temple marks that spot, in a village that still carries the name of the cooked grain he received that day. On Janmashtami, the day he chose to descend for his devotees, the Chadhava will be offered here in your name. How the Village Got Its Name While grazing cows nearby with the other cowherd boys, Krishna and Balram grew hungry. Krishna sent his sakhas to a group of Brahmanas performing a fire sacrifice close by, asking for food — but caught up in ritual formality, the Brahmanas turned the boys away. He then sent them to the Brahmanas' own wives. The moment they heard Krishna's name, everything changed — doors were broken open, and food was carried straight out to him in the open fields. The Bhagavatam doesn't soften what follows: even men well-versed in the Vedas were shamed that day by their wives' devotion. The village came to be called Bhatraund — Bhat for the cooked rice and grain carried that day, Raund meaning village. Travelling to Bhatraund isn't something every devotee can manage, especially on the night of Janmashtami. Through Sri Pujan, purohit ji performs the Chadhava with complete vidhi at Bhatraund Bihari Ji Temple, in your name.
