Why Is Kolhapur Sacred for Lakshmi Puja?
Kolhapur is one of the rare places in India where Maa Lakshmi is believed to reside permanently, not just visit. Tradition calls it Dakshin Kashi, and the Ambabai temple here is counted among the most powerful Shakti Peethas of the country.
A Lakshmi puja offered at her own home is held to carry many times the phal of an ordinary puja, which is why devotees from across India travel to Kolhapur for wealth and prosperity.
What Is the Mythological Significance of Kolhapur?
It is believed that when Maa Lakshmi left Vaikuntha, she chose Kolhapur as her earthly abode and has resided here ever since. Twice every year, during Kiranotsav, the rays of the setting sun fall directly on her murti — a darshan devotees consider her own blessing.

Everyone lights a diya on Diwali. But the shastras say Maa Lakshmi stays only where she is invited with full vidhi — on the right night, with the right sankalp. For families where money comes but never stays, where savings drain into one expense after another, Mahalakshmi Puja on Diwali night is performed to invite her in, and to make her stay. The puja is done in your name and gotra, by a verified Pandit ji, under Acharya LavBhushan ji's guidance.
